Hey, I’m Kim.

My name is Kimberly Embleton, Kim for short. I am a registered social worker (#15495) with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.

I hold a Master’s of Social Work from the University of British Columbia and am a certified Synergetic Play Therapist.

I specialize in working with children/youth who have histories of trauma, involvement with child protection and/or foster or out of home placements.

I utilize skills from a variety of modalities and theories including Synergetic Play Therapy, Attachment Theory, Child Development, Family Systems & utilize a trauma-informed, strengths-based lens. I whole heartedly believe in meeting the child where they are at; this can look like sessions in the car/waiting room to allow the child to enter my space on their terms.

Sessions include integration of regulation in the nervous system through in the moment teaching. I also works with identified support people to educate and incorporate teachings in other environments such as home, school & community.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You know your family best. I have dedicated my work to understanding child development and behaviour. I can provide support as the bridge to understanding the challenges you may be facing and am here to help you navigate through them.

  • Counselling can provide a safe and supportive environment for you and your family to explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns. It can help improve communication, strengthen relationships and offer alternative coping strategies to deal with challenges. Together we can work towards promoting emotional well-being and positive change.

  • Synergetic Play Therapy is “a way of being.” Being in relationship with self and others. When behaviours start to appear it is a signal that a perceived challenge is happening for your child or youth. So though you as the caregiver may have a perception that there’s nothing you can think of that would cause these challenges, your child may have a perception of something in their lives that has caused disruption.

As we start to delve into understanding the brain, more and more knowledge is being shared about various events that can impact the brain such as perceived stress in utero, birth trauma, medical trauma, systemic racism, isolation, bullying etc. Even though we can’t put words to these events, our bodies have ways of remembering the experience.
